Junk Food junkie Sep 13, 2009

"Working from home ROCKS!!!"
T-shirts and shorts (or jeans and sweat bottoms in the winter) are pretty much my equivalent to the "business suit". So, I am always looking for good deals to add to my daily wardrobe... Enter Amazon and Junk Food. My wife has bought Junk Food t's for our kids for a few years now, but did not realize until recently that Junk Food makes adult size - I'm slow. I've always liked how Junk Food features nostalgic pop designs (in this case, the Punk era icon, Mr. Sid Vicious)s. The design speaks for itself, so either you like it or you don't - fellow children of the 70s/80s, how can you not? My comments are mainly about the fit or cut and the quality of the material...
The fit (or cut) is fairly generous, so don't expect a tight-fitting t-shirt but do not expect a baggy cut either. I am a medium fit for most t-shirts from J. Crew, The Gap, Chaser LA, Trunk, Polo, etc., and do not like tight fitting or overly baggy shirts. Junk Food is more of an athletic cut, which to me means shoulders that are slightly generous/wider than usual and with more room in the body and neck. The length is just as pictured - falls about 6-7 inches below the waist. I'd consider this to be "standard" length for a t-shirt - which works well for me since I do not like to tuck in any kind of shirt and prefer that t-shirts drop just enough to cover the front pockets of shorts or jeans.
The material is a very soft cotton (100% cotton for this design - but not all Junk Food t's are 100% cotton), so it did shrink a bit but not so much that I would consider or recommend ordering a larger size. The cotton is good quality and should hold up to many washings and much abuse. It is NOT "Hanes Beefy T" quality but I find those to be a little too thick and stiff with the neck too tight for my liking. This shirt is a good late-summer/early-Fall or Spring weight. All hems appear to be double stitched and are particularly sturdy-looking at the neck and shoulders. Wrinkling is rarely an issue for me, but I am far from a stickler about such things. Straight from the dryer, this shirt is ready to go.
The lone item on the wish list for improvement would be for Junk Food to stop using labels at the back of the neck and instead use screen printing like Chaser LA and many manufactures have started using. Oh, and with three youngsters at home, it would be nice to have this in black or navy rather than white, though this design seems to work better on white. Other than that, whenever Amazon discounts a Junk Food t-shirt below $25, it's a no-brainer buy for me. At the price Amazon was blowing this one out (less than $15 when I bought it), I may end up buying another as a reserve before it suffers the same "perma-stain" fate that all light-colored clothing worn by dads seem doomed to suffer. :)
